Lady in purple

Hi everyone,

Today I thought I would share with you one of my DT cards for Cupcakecrafting. Again it's from 'A Touch of Elegance'.

It is an 8x8 card and I chose a purple topper and backing paper from the Cd. The backing paper is matted onto black card and then fixed to the card. The topper is pyrimaged and matted onto black card.

On the sheet of toppers, there is a tag so I used this in the top left hand corner. I matted this onto black card and added a purple bow. I also used a square Epiphany button and fixed this to the tag.

Inside of the button is a small picture of the lady in purple. On the bottom right hand corner I added some flowers which are also from the Cd.

I would like to enter this card into the following challenges:-

Octagonal aperture

Hi there,

Well it's 1.15am and I'm still in my craft room.

Last night when my son came in from the gym, he said he could smell gas at the bottom of the drive. We rang British Gas and they sent someone out who bored holes in my garden and up the drive. He said that the leak was at the bottom of the drive and someone would come out early in the week.

This morning when my hubby took the dog for a walk, he could smell gas further up the street, next door but one to be exact, so we rang British Gas again. Someone else came out and he said the leak was across the road and someone would be out within the hour to investigate further. So at 3.30pm this afternoon, two men in a van came and started digging on the pavement across the road. It is now 1.25am and they are still at it. I bet the neighbours just love us!! There's a generator making a noise and they are drilling, so I can't see the point in going to bed as we sleep in the front room.

So I thought I would share with you a DT card I made using 'A Touch of Elegance' from Cupcakecrafting. This was an idea I had, but as usual, when I made my idea into a card, it wasn't as good as I expected, but I'm going to show it anyway. I have seen them done in a sort of square before but felt that this image lent itself to an octagon shape.

I used an 8x8 card blank as my base card. I printed off a backing paper onto another piece of A4 card and printed a coordinating paper on the reverse. I drew round the largest topper to make a template and then drew around this onto my card. I found the centre point and then cut diagonally from opposite corners through the centre point (if that makes sense) and then curled each section back - 8 in total. In order to hold these pieces down, I used coordinating brads as I felt they may spring off if I used 3d foam pads as I have seen used before.

The topper was a pyrimage, so I layered this up and then positioned it on my card and within the aperture on the backing paper after placing a coordinating mat on the base card. I fixed the topper to the copper coloured card mat and then fixed the backing paper with aperture over this. In the bottom right hand corner, I fixed some flowers which are also on the cd and placed a gem in the centre of each to add interest. In the top left hand corner, I put a sentiment which I made on the computer using the sentiment boxes on the Cd and took this into Craft Artist to  print it onto a similar backing paper which I had made paler.

To finish the card off, I added an insert in the middle which also came from the Cd and are text editable. This was done in a similar way to the sentiment, by taking it into Craft Artist and printing onto a paler backing paper to make it more interesting than just a plain white insert.

Thank you for popping over. Everything has gone quiet now over the road, so I may just go up to bed and see if I can get some sleep.

Miranda and Mo in the garden

Hi crafters,
I hope you're having a good weekend.

Today, I thought I would show you the card I made yesterday which I didn't photograph until today as I thought it would be too dark. I apologise for the photographs today, they were taken in daylight and looked great on the camera screen but look dark on here!!

For this card I used Miranda and Mo Cd from Kraftyhands. Its the first time I've used it and there are lots of lovely toppers and backgrounds etc on there. I thought as it was the first card I have published for Kraftyhands, I would use a sketch as I seem to be getting in a rut with my layouts. So I chose one from a site on Feline Playful. However, the card I used was a 6x6 and for the items I wanted to use, they wouldn't fit the sketch so I changed it a little, but it doesn't matter because I wasn't going to enter it into that particular challenge anyway!!

I matted a blue polka dot backing paper onto silver mirri and placed this on my card blank. I intended to decoupage the topper and cut it out and stuck it together with Pinflair. However, what I didn't realise was that the two toppers on the sheet that I printed out weren't meant to go together AND then fix the decoupage on. The decoupage was meant to fit on the larger topper!! Mmm - I'll know next time. It's all a learning curve!

So mark 2 - I fixed the smaller topper onto the larger topper using 3d foam pads. This was matted onto silver mirri. Using my Cricut machine and the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge, I cut a circle in the dotty flower backing paper and a slightly larger one in silver mirri. There is a decorative band on the sheet which I cut out and before I matted this onto silver mirri, I cut out the wings on some of the butterflies so that they stood proud of the band. There is also faux stitching on the top and bottom of the band.

I then fixed this to the card using 3d foam pads, and then fixed the topper over the circle and then onto the backing paper. I used a 'Happy Birthday' sentiment from the set, matted this onto silver mirri and cut this out free hand. In thetop right hand corner, I placed 3 blue Kard Kandy buttons.

Inside, I added an insert to finish it off.

I would like to enter this card into the following challenges:-
LEJ Designs - stitching real or faux - http://lejdesignschallengeblog.blogspot.co.uk/ (Faux stitching is on top and bottom of band)
Try it on Tuesday - Lets get stitchy real or faux - http://tuesdaytaggers.blogspot.co.uk/ (Faux stitching is on top and bottom of band)
My Craft Creatoins - Flowers and butterflies - http://craftcreatoins.blogspot.co.uk/

Thank you for calling by and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Skateboarder

Hi all,

I have been making DT cards all week for Kraftyhands but unfortunately I can't share these with you yet. I also made a card from a new Cd rom I have but there is no natural light at the moment, so if I take a photograph it will be dark, so I'll save that one for tomorrow.

Instead I thought I would share a card I made for one of my pupil's birthdays. I think the colours are nice and bright to brighten up these dreary days. I used a topper and a backing paper from an old set of CDs - Triple Treasures Volume 2 from Create and Craft. He loves the outdoors and has bikes, scooters, skateboards etc. As part of his present, I bought him some finger skateboards, so I felt this topper was appropriate.

I used an 8x8 white, scalloped card blank to make the easel card. I cut out a shape in white card using the Cricut Lacy Labels cartridge and a smaller shape using a patterned backing paper from the Cd rom. The topper is decoupaged and I cut out some trainers and a cap to embellish the bottom corners of the topper. I cut out some triangles using the Plantin Schoolbook Cricut cartridge and stuck peel offs on each to read '9 Today'. I fixed these to Baker's Twine and placed this along the top of the topper.

For the stopper, I made two rosettes using the same patterned backing paper as I had fixed on the top part of the easel. This I felt coordinated with the plainer blue backing paper that I put on the base of the card. I used my Hougie board to make the rosettes. For the centre of the rosettes, I cut four labels from the Lacy Labels cartridge, two in the plainer blue backing paper and two in the patterned paper. The smaller patterned one was placed on top of the slightly larger plainer one and one was fixed on each rosette. For the sentiment, I did the same but reversed the colours and with peel offs wrote 'Happy Birthday Thomas'.

I also made a coordinating bag for his pressie. I used a white bag from Cupcakecrafting and used the patterned backing paper and topper from the Cd rom. I'm sorry about the photograph, it looks quite dark. I hope he likes them both.

I would like to enter this into the following challenges:-

Brrr - it's cold out here Mum!

Hi everyone,

I thought I would post another of my Cupcakecrafting DT cards today as it is topical. Our snow is just about going but I understand there's more on the way. My son is up in Newcastle and is due back tomorrow. Thank goodness he's gone on the train and not having to drive in it all.

The lady in my image is dressed for the weather and her and her little dog seem to be enjoying it (apart from the heels on her boots, I think wellies might be more appropriate!!)

The card is a 7x10. I used black and red cardstock to mat and layer onto. On the bottom piece of black card, I covered this with red Spiders Web netting from Club Green to give it extra texture.

The image is taken from 'A Touch of Elegance' from Cupcakecrafting. I used paper from my stash to make the poinsettia which I cut using Spellbinder dies and my Bigshot. I distressed the leaves and petals with Tim Holtz's distress ink - Peeled Paint to make it less shiny. I fixed the poinsettia to the bottom right hand corner of the topper with Pinflair.

Theatre Card

Hi everyone,
This is another of my DT cards that I did for the Cupcakecrafting 4 day deal last week, featuring 'A Touch of Elegance'. This card was also shown on TV but I think Linda said it was another ladies, but it wasn't, it's mine.

I felt that the topper with the curtains lent itself to a theatre card, so that is what I decided to do. I thought it was going to be really difficult but it was alot easier than I expected. I printed a backing paper onto card and concertinaed(?) the sides, so that the front and sides were all in one. I used my Hougie Board to concertina the sides.

I put some strips across the inside of the top and bottom to fix the lady and curtains onto. I cut some urns and plants from black card using the Art Nouveau Cricut cartridge and fixed these onto the front of the card so that the aperture didn't look quite as bare. I printed a sentiment - 'Just for you' and cut this out in an oval shape and backed this on black card which was also cut into an oval shape but slightly larger than the sentiment. I coloured it with chalks to try and coordinate it with the backing paper. I think you can just see it in the photograph.

Thank you for popping over and taking a look. I appreciate it and your comments that you leave.

I would like to enter this card into the following challenges:-

Brown

Hi everyone,
Two posts in two days, can't be bad.

Here is another of my DT cards that I made for the Cupcakecrafting 4 day deal that was shown on Create and Craft last week. This one is a twisted easel card and I used a 6x6 square card.

The topper and backing paper are both taken from 'A Touch of Elegance' Cd. I matted and layered a sepia/brown backing paper onto black card and fixed this to the base and also to the easel part. I cut a piece of black card that was slightly larger than the topper and fixed the topper onto this at a jaunty angle (unusual for me!).

These were then fixed to the easel. For the stopper, I used another piece of the backing paper  and using my hougie board, I made a rosette and placed this onto a circular piece of black card which was slightly larger than the rosette.

Black and White

Hi everyone,
Sorry I haven't been about for a while, I've been ill and we've had a few family issues, so that said, on to a card that I made for the Cupcakecrafting 4 day deal last week. I planned to show it last week but best laid plans and all that.

For this card, I used a 7x10 card blank. The topper is from 'A Touch of Elegance' from Cupcakecrafting. I matted and layered the topper onto black card. The backing paper was taken from the same Cd and matted and layered onto black card.

Before I fixed it to the card, I tied a piece of black ribbon diagonally around the backing paper. Once I had fixed the topper to the card, I placed two gems on the ribbon that was showing on the top left hand side.

On the bottom right hand side, I fixed two small black feathers and attached a black bow to the quills(?) (stems?).

I would like to enter this card into the following challenges:

Happy Birthday, Audrey

Hi everyone,

This is a card that I made for my next door neighbour's birthday using the Touch of Elegance CD Rom from Cupcakecrafting.

First, I took an A4 piece of white card, scored it at halfway and then scored one of the halves in half again to make an easel card. I matted and layered the bottom of the card, where the verse would be with black card and then a piece of the backing paper from the Cd. I did the same with the easel part that was facing me.

I took one of the toppers and matted and layered this onto black card and then onto a piece of the backing paper placed on black card. I then placed this in a portrait position on the easel part of the card.

For the stopper, I used a box that I made with card that I had printed the backing paper from the Cd and filled this with tealights. I used the Hougie Board to score the lines for the candle box. I used 3 vanilla scented tealights and 2 red berry scented tealights, all from Wilkinsons. The  berry ones complimented the red flower on the bottom corner of the card and also the red in the image. The centres of the flowers which I had, didn't match the card, so I cut out 3 circles, the same size as the centres that came with the flowers. I put 'Dries Clear' adhesive on the circles and covered this with Pee Wee glitter (red/black from Happy Holidays).I then placed the flowers on the box, one at the left hand side and the other two on the right hand side.

I put a verse inside to finish it off.

I hope she likes it.

The Touch of Elegance CD Rom is on the 4 day deal on Create and Craft from Monday 14th January.
     Monday 8am, 10am, 4pm
     Tuesday 9am, 4pm
     Wednesday 10am, 2pm, 7pm
     Thursday 11am, 5pm

See you later.

A new baby

Hi everyone,

I have had a request from one of my Feline Playful team members to show the cherub cot that I made a couple of days ago.  Some of the team are from overseas and hadn't heard of a 'Cherub Cot.' I confused Donna when I mentioned it and she went away to look it up on the internet so here it is.

The Cherub Cot was for my son's friend and his partner. Sam gave birth to a baby girl on Tuesday 8th January and they are calling her Grace Louise. It made a change from the 21st birthday cards that I have been making for him recently but they take much longer to put together.

Although, the cot was for a baby girl, I decided to make it in a cream colour for a change. I used the template from Arty Farty to make the cot and the presentation box and used double sided A3 card. To stick the card together, I used red liner tape and also Collall glue where the use of wet glue was needed.  I decorated the box with small cream daisy braid around the acetate aperture. The aperture in the headboard of the cot has a cream organza fabric to add effect and above it, I used gold coloured peel offs to put the word 'BABY',

Inside the cot, I made a quilt cover using the same cream organza material that I used in the headboard and edged it with cream lace. The mobile was made using cream card and six cream teddy motifs attached to white thread and a white flower bead. The tag is made from the same cream card, has some ribbon threaded through and the words 'Congratulations Sam and Simon' on one side using gold peel offs to match the wording on the cot headboard, on the other side of the tag, I put the baby's name, date she was born, time and weight again in gold peel offs so that they could hopefully keep it as a keepsake.

I had a deadline in which to make the cot as my son was seeing Simon, the father, at 7.30 on the Thursday to play football. We received a text later that night to say 'Thank you' and that Sam had cried when she saw the cot!!

I'm glad she liked it.

I made a pink one for my friend who became a grandmother for the first time at the end of November, and also one for my hubby's secretary in October. The link is http://wendyhsblog.blogspot.co.uk/2012/10/a-new-arrival.html
I also made a white one for a competition in November, which I am pleased to say I won. This one was in white. The link is http://wendyhsblog.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/white-on-white.html

I apologise for the poor quality of the photographs but I was running out of time and had to get the cot there for 7.30!! It was all done in a bit of a rush.

I hope you and my Feline Playful friends like it and thank you for stopping by.

Have a great weekend.

Allsorts prize

Hi All,

I hope you are all well.

Today I received my prize from the Allsorts Challenge that I won at the weekend. It was a great surprise. There was also a beautiful card from Brenda, one of the coordinators. Here is a photograph of the prize.

I will have some fun with these. The only problem is, I'm reluctant to use them as they are beautiful and I want to keep them!!

Here is aphotograph of the card. I think it's fab. It was a nice gesture to send with the prize.
Thank you Brenda and Allsorts Challenge.

This week's challenge is CAS - clean and simple. Here is their address - http://allsortschallenge.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/week-188-cas.html

Programmes to come on Create and Craft next week

Hi all.

I hope you are all well.

Well yesterday, I finished off my samples for Cupcakecrafting and sent them off to Lynda Chapman for the 4 day deal starting on Create and Craft on Monday 14th January. I've had an e mail to say that she has received them, so that's one worry off my list!! Also can she use some of my ideas, so I feel quite flattered!! Here's a photgraph of the front of the new Cd Rom that she will be showing. It's a great Cd, something different, I think. I have enjoyed working with it. Hopefully you may see some of my samples next week on TV. I will also show some on here after they have been shown on television.

Today I finished my tax return and sent that off. Another tick off my list. I also received my order from Crafters Companion - my Spectrum Noir pens. So I'm going to have a play later. I've caught up on everyone's blog (I think) on All Things Crafty, done my postings for Feline Playful, made a hair appointment and done part of my ironing. I couldn't finish it because my back gave way and the medication wouldn't make it any easier. Not to worry, tomorrow is another day. I'll finish it off then, together with my hand washing, which is another killer for my back, so may not be up to much tomorrow afternoon.

All that done and I'm awaiting my parcel from Kraftyhands so that I can start my DT work with them. Their challenge for this month is 'New Beginnings', so why not head over to their site and enter. http://kraftyhandschallenge.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/january-new-beginnings.html There's a great prize up for grabs - £20 voucher to spend on the Kraftyhands website.

Mike and Ian (Kraftyhands) are also on Create and Craft on 17th January launching their new Cd Rom - Miranda and Mo. As I'm a newbie on Kraftyhands, I haven't received my copy yet, but can't wait until I do, it looks really cutsie, don't you agree.
Anyway, I will go and tidy up my craft room and have a play with my Spectrum Noirs.

See you soon. Happy crafting.

A 21st and my news!

Hi there,

Yesterday I thought I would have a change to my blog so I changed the design. Out with the old and in with the new and all that! The truth is, I wasn't sure whether my last blog design was a bit too busy so I've gone for a more plain one this time and its blue - one of my favourite colours.

I also have some news to share with you. My first bit of news is that I was a winner over on the Allsorts Challenge for my pinwheel exploding box this week. My other bit of news is that I have been invited to join the design team over on Kraftyhands which I'm very excited about but feel sick with anxiousness. I felt the same when I joined the DT on Cupcakecrafting so hopefully it will pass.

Today, I have been making some more samples for the Touch of Elegance CD Rom which is to be the 4 day deal over on Create and Craft starting Monday 14th January, so it's all systems go. I will share these with you later.

First today though, I had to make a 21st birthday card for another of my son's pals who is turning of age. That's six this week alone!!

For Alex's card (my son's pal), I used Docrafts Wellington Bear - Past times CD Rom. I haven't used this before as I had problems loading it when I first tried using it but I must say I quite like it.

I used an 8x8 white card to start with. The only topper that suited Alex was Wellington with a pint of beer, not because he's an alcoholic, but because he's into photography and cycling and there weren't any of these toppers on the Cd. I matted and layered the topper onto black card from my stash. I used a beigy brown backing paper from the Cd and also matted and layered that onto black card. I fixed it all onto the card. I used the letters and numbers on the Cd to make the sentiment- '21 Today' and made a similar one with his name on to make it more personal. I then attached a bottle top to the bottom right hand corner of the topper. Inside as well as writing a verse, I added - Other beers are available! (Perhaps I have been watching too much Create and Craft!, the presenters usually say that when they advertise/name drop.)

I would like to enter the card into the following challenges:-

Today I have prepared a post with some of my news and also a 21st card that I have made. Unfortunately, the links aren't working and I'm unable to upload my photos, so it will have to wait until tomorrow.

See you then.

Black and white

Hi everyone,

Happy New Year to you all.

Thank you for popping across to my blog. Today I thought I would share with you a box that I made recently. Its called a Pinwheel Exploding Box and I think has a little more 'Wow' factor than the normal exploding box.

I followed the instructions on Helen Perreaux's site http://www.paper-castle.com/2011/08/04/pinwheel-box-tutorial/#more-684. She has both a video tutorial and the measurements for the card pieces needed are also in her blog so these can be prepared in advance. The only problem I found was the sound quality. The sound kept going off but I was still able to finish the project.

I used black and white card from my stash. I cut the card pieces to the sizes as recommended by Heather. I used my Hougie board to emboss the lines on the outer black flap to add effect and then added gems from my stash to add a bit of bling. I used the Cricut machine and Lacy Labels cartridge to cut out the frames on the sides of the box. There is a different shape round the sentiment on each of the four sides and each sentiment is different. There is also a different stamped image on each of the four flaps. The stamps I used are from Craft Creatives.

The box lid

I also used a Martha Stewart punch to edge the lips of the box lid. I can't remember what it is called but it looks like arches. I printed the sentiments on my computer. As can be seen, I also added some gems to the box lid.

I would like to enter this project into the following challenges:
Allsorts Challenge - Its as plain as black and white - http://allsortschallenge.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/week-1867-its-as-plain-as-black-and.html
Glitter n Sparkle - Favourite colours - http://glitternsparklechallengeblog.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/challenge-13.html

Thank you for stopping by.
