Summertime Peekers

Hi,
Hope everyone is ok. I'm sorry I've been missing for the best part of the week but had a lot of things to sort out, but I'm here today with a post.

I thought I would share with you my FIRST DIGI card that I have coloured with my Spectrum Noirs that I bought just after Christmas. I won the digis, which are from Bugaboo. The digi is called Summertime Peekers -  Flower Pot and I won it, (part of 7) for commenting on Doreen's card in the Make It Monday Challenge a few weeks ago. I think it is so cute.

I had two practices first before I decided to go for the real thing. The first one was pretty good except that the ink kept smudging, the second one was pretty awful. I couldn't blame anything else for this one, it was my colouring!! I'm pretty pleased with how the third one turned out with the help of Leann Chivers and her Spectrum Noir DVD.

I used an 8x8 scalloped white card as my base card. I matted a plain yellow backing paper from the Sunshine and Smiles Cd from Kraftyhands on to a chocolate brown matt card from my stash. I took a smaller piece of polka dot paper, also from the cd and matted that also on to the brown card.

I printed the digi image onto Neenah cardstock from Crafters Companion and coloured this with the Spectrum Noirs:
skin - FS2, FS3, TN2
hair - CT1, CT2, CT3 (I think)
ribbon - LV2, LV3
flowers - GB5, OR1, JG6, DG3
Plant pot - TN8, TN7, EB5 (I think)
blob at side of pot - JG6, DG4
I then matted this onto the brown card.

I tied some chocolate brown ribbon from my stash around the base backing paper and card and then fixed it to the card blank. The image and other piece of backing paper, I fixed to the base but at jaunty angles. In the top left hand corner and bottom right hand corner I placed a yellow flower (purchased from Joanne Sheen) and placed a dark brown Kard Kandy in the centre. In the other two corners, I just placed the brown Kard Kandy. In the top centre, I placed a sentiment, which reads 'Just For You'. This was from the Kanban sentiments kit. I matted this onto the brown card so that it matched the rest.

I would like to enter this card into the following challenges:-

Rest In Peace, Marion

Hi,
Here is a sympathy card that I made yesterday following the passing of my brother-in-law's partner's mother who had been suffering with Alzheimers for a long while.

I normally buy my sympathy cards but saw this Cd over at Kraftyhands, and also saw some samples on Linda Simpson's blog and just felt that I had to have the Cd for those difficult cards that we all have to have/make at some time or other.

I used an 8x8 scalloped card blank. I matted a piece of the backing paper onto silver mirri and also one of the toppers onto the silver mirri. I took one of the sentiments into Paint and removed the printed sentiment . I then took this into Craft Artist and added my own sentiment - On the loss of your Mum -  and matted this onto silver mirri. In the bottom left hand corner I placed three cala lillies and added a purple bow.

In the inside, I took a plain insert from the Cd and placed this on the left hand side  and one of the inserts with a verse and placed this on the right hand side. There are two verses to choose from in each of the colourways as well as the one without a verse.

I added our names to the bottom of this.

I apologise for the poor lighting in the photographs but I was in a hurry to get this to Brian and Bridie and it was already dark when I took the photographs.

I would like to enter this card into the following challenges:-

Crafting by Design - (W)- Anything Goes
Penny's Paper-Crafty - (W) - Anything Goes

Vintage Treasure Bag

Hi crafters,

Today I thought I would share with you a bag that I made using the Vintage Treasure CD Rom from Kraftyhands.

Just a reminder that this will be launched on Create and Craft tomorrow (Tuesday 19th February) at 1pm and 6pm by Mike and Ian from Kraftyhands. Hope you can be there to watch or set your recorders - I'll be setting mine although I hope to be watching.

I had the idea of the bag in my head, to try and make something other than a card. I thought about using brown paper as I didn't have any Kraft card. The paper I had though was too flimsy. I was struggling to think where I might get a brown bag that I could decorate. While walking in the precinct in town, I saw a couple of ladies come out of 'The Body Shop' carrying brown bags so went in to buy some hand moisturiser and get a brown bag, only to find that it had 'The Body Shop' advertised on it - as it would as it was from there shop. I got one anyway and thought of how I could cover it as it was also in the side gusset. When I got home, I tried turning it inside out and managed to damage it, so had to come up with another idea.

I used one of the brown mats from the card making section on the Cd and took it into Craft Artist and made a backing paper. I printed this onto A3 card.  In hindsight, this would have been cheaper to do in the first place, it cost me £15 for moisturiser!! Lol! I used one of the projects from the Crafters Companion - Everyday Cd rom to help me make the bag along with my Hougie.

The topper is from the Cd and is decoupaged, along with the hatpin. The hat pin was also covered in Pinflair glaze but it is difficult to see on this photograph.

I added a bow from purple ribbon to the top of the bag and two purple feathers and a purple bow to the bottom right of the topper. I placed a gem on the bow to add some detail.

On the back of the bag, I added a tag which is also from the Cd. I matted this onto a matching purple card from my stash and added a purple bow with pearl fixed to it, again for detail and to match the one on the front.

For the handles, I cheated and used the ones from the 'Body Shop' bag and fixed these to the inside of the bag, so not a total waste of a bag!!

I would like to enter this bag into the following challenges:-
Make it Monday - Anything Goes (x)
Dream Valley Challenges - Ribbon and Bling (x)
GlitternSparkle - Anything but a card (x)

Thank you for stopping by.

Happy crafting.

Hubby's Birthday Card

Hi all,

Today I thought I would share with you a birthday card that I made for my hubby's birthday, just over a  week ago.

He enjoys golfing and he and my son go for a game whenever they can, which is not as often as they would like.

I decided to make a trophy pop up card for a change. I used an A4 piece of card and printed a backing paper from the Ooh La La CD Rom - Boys to Men.

I printed a contrasting backing paper onto another piece of white card for the part that stands up in the middle. The pyrimage topper was also taken from the Cd and mounted onto a piece of dark green card.

In Craft Artist, I made two mats using one of the 'greens' from the topper, on one I printed 'Happy Birthday' and on the other I printed'To My Wonderful Husband'.

I have had the golf club embellishment in my stash for a while. I didn't have a ball, so used a faceted white bead - it was near to a ball as I could get!!

On the back, I put the verse.

I had loads of ideas such as making a score card to go with the card for when he goes for a game, but with travelling a fair bit to visit my uncle who is still very poorly, I just ran out of time. To make up for it, I made a voucher entitling him to go for a game of golf whenever he wants and to have lunch there as well and put it in a gift bag with some chocolate goodies for him for Valentines Day. I made one for my son as well, so they can both go together.

I would like to enter this card into the following challenges:-
My Time To Craft - Men Only
Broken Box Stock - Happy Birthday
Card Makin Mamas - Birthday
Chocolate, coffee and cards - Hobbies
Inspire Me Fridays - Anything Goes
ABC Challenge - H is for Happy Birthday
Cards Galore - One for the Men
Sandy's Crafty Creations - Anyhting Goes with a Twist

Thank you for popping by. I wonder who will be my 40th follower? Go on, let it be you!

Happy crafting

Blog of the Week

Hi Crafters,

Today I thought I would share with you an 'interview' by Emma Goddard over on Emma's Hints Tips and Inspiration which she did last week after I won 'The Blog of the Week'.

BLOG of the WEEK Winner ...
Last weeks winner of the 'BLOG of the WEEK'
in the group was
'Wendy Himsworth'

What crafts do you do?
''I mainly make cards and 3D projects. I occasionally knit and am able to sew and crochet. My hubby bought me a jewellery making kit for Christmas so I hope to start that soon, also my son bought me a parchment crafting kit and quilling kit, so I am going to be a busy bee over the next few months.''

How long have you been crafting and why did you start?
''My Mum taught me to knit, sew and crochet when I was younger, so I have been doing those for quite a while. I started to cross stitch just before my son was born, he will be 21 in July! I only started card making about 7 years ago. I became ill after my Mum passed away and left my job as a Teaching Assistant. A couple of ladies I worked with had started to make cards and I felt that it was something that I would like to try. I somehow came across Create and Craft on TV and started buying bits and bobs and my son and I started to make cards. He soon grew out of it, however I carried on and I joined a local craft class for a couple of months and learned a few ideas from there.''

How would you describe your style of craft?
''What is my style of craft? I enjoy CD crafting the most and have lots of these in my craft room, I also like making 3D projects and have a number of templates which I use. I would like to get into stamping more and have recently won some digi stamps in various challenges, so I need to use these together with my Spectrum Noirs which I recently purchased.''

Who / what is your inspiration?
''When I first started watching Create and Craft, my inspiration were people such as Sue Smith (by eye) from Kameo, Joanna Sheen, The Glitter Girls, Michelle Marsden and Nancy Watt. Today I get my inspiration from my crafty friends and from the challenge blogs that I visit. There are some very talented people out there.''

How long have you been blogging and why did you start?

''I started blogging in October 2012, so I’ve only been blogging for about 4 months. I started because I wanted to join another design team. I was already part of Lynda Chapman’s Cupcakecrafting DT but enjoyed it so much I wanted to branch out as it were. Having read some DT calls it seemed that you had to have a blog to become part of a team so I decided to start one. Not being particularly very computer savvy, I found it difficult at first, but found that fellow crafters were keen to help. I have since entered many challenges (and won some!!) and it is thanks to my followers and crafty friends for their comments that make it all worthwhile. In December I joined Feline Playful as part of the voluntary team. Feline Playful is a blog which, each day of the week lists the challenges for that day and also posts a list of challenge winners for that day. In January, I was invited to join the DT at Kraftyhands by Mike and Ian, so setting up the blog and taking part in challenges was certainly worth the effort. I have only been part of the team for a short while, but everyone is very supportive and talented.''

''Here are some of the samples that I have made over the last 4 months.''

I would like to thank Emma for inviting me to answer these questions and I hope you have enjoyed finding out more about me too.''

Turquoise

Hi crafters,

Today I have been making DT cards but unfortunately I can't show them yet, but all will be revealed soon.

Instead, I thought I would share with you a card I made using the Vintage toppers from Kraftyhands. It's in my favourite colour - blue or I guess 'turquoise' as it says on the topper!

I matted the topper onto silver mirri and cut the corners on the mirri to match the ones on the topper. I chose a backing paper from the Kraftyhands Vintage Treasure CD Rom - I love this backing paper. There's 10 different colours of this particular design and I think they are all beautiful. I matted this onto a 6x6 scalloped card blank.

Before I placed the topper on the backing paper, I placed a doily under it but placed it to the top right hand corner. To the bottom left hand corner, I placed two sets of three turquoise gems to add a bit of sparkle.

Inside of the card, I put an insert. There are inserts on the Vintage Treasure Cd but obviously didn't match the topper as it is from a different set. I took one of the inserts from the Cd, took it into Paint and removed the image that was printed on the insert. Then in Craft Artist, I put a copy of the image on the insert so that it all coordinated.

The toppers and the Vintage Treasure Cd will be on Create and Craft on Tuesday February 19th at 1pm and 6pm. Tune in to see Mike and Ian and the samples as made by the Kraftyhands design team.

Hope you can make it.

Vintage shaped card

Hi Crafters,
Sorry I haven't been around lately, but my uncle is still ill and I've been visiting him. It's a 130 mile round trip so takes up a lot of time travelling.

Anyway, I thought I would show another of my DT cards for Kraftyhands. I have used the Vintage Treasures CD rom again. This will be launched on Tuesday 19th February on Create and Craft by Mike and Ian. The shows go out live at 1pm and 6pm - not to be missed.

For my card, I used a shape from the Cricut Lacy Labels cartridge and made an easel card after printing one of the backing sheets on to the card before cutting it.

I used one of the mats from the cardmaking section on the cd and matted this onto silver mirri, and one of the toppers which I decoupaged onto the mat. I also decoupaged the faux hat pin and glazed it with Pinflair glaze but it doesn't show up very well in this photograph. This is something that I have had in my stash for ages but never used!

In the opposite corner to the hatpin, I placed a bouquet of cream roses. In the packet, they were quite tight budded, so I teased them out with my tweezers so that they looked a little fuller in bloom. I tied a bow with some dark green ribbon, to compliment the one on the hatpin. Added this to the bouquet, to cover the stems and added a gem.

For the stopper for the easel, I made a rosette from a coordinated backing paper by concertinaing it after scoring it on the Hougie Board. I made this into an ellipse shape rather than circular so that it was in keeping with the shape of the topper (although you can't tell on this photgraph.) I placed one of the sentiments from the set onto the rosette and placed two pearl rings on the base, one either side of the rosette and sentiment.

On the inside of the easel, I matted an insert onto silver mirri and placed this onto the base of the easel. The image on the topper and insert could mean that this card could be for a wedding, anniversary or a birthday.

Fan card from new Vintage Treasures Cd

Hi crafters,

Here is one of my DT samples for the new Vintage Treasures CD which is to be launched by Mike and Ian of Kraftyhands on Tuesday 19th February at 1pm and 6pm on Create and Craft.

It's an A5 white card that I have distressed on the edges with TimHoltz's Distress ink - Tea Dye. I used one of the backing papers from the Cd and backed this onto a brown mat from the Cd. This comes in a 5x5 size on the Cd and I wanted it to fit my A5 card so I took it into Craft Artist and made it larger.

The topper has been matted onto the brown mat from the Cd and the centre topper has been matted onto the centre of a doily which has been distressed using Tim Holtz's Broken China Distress Ink and attached these with 3D foam pads to raise them up.

I embellished the top left hand corner with a white rose which I distressed with the Broken China and attached a small string of pearls before attaching to the card with Pinflair.

To the bottom right hand corner, I attached a fan which I made from a left over piece of the backing paper and concertinaed it using the Hougie Board. I distressed this with Tea Dye and attached a turquise tassle to make it into a fan shape. I also attached a 'Happy Birthday' sentiment also from the Cd.

Inside, I used one of the portrait inserts and added text by taking it into Craft Artist and using a font colour to match the image in the bottom right  of the insert.

Here is the cover of the CD Rom. As I said to Mike, Ian and Linda, this is not a style I would normally go for and probably wouldn't have bought the Cd, but having seen the images and having used it, I thoroughly enjoyed it and glad I was given the opportunity.

Wellington 21st Card

Hi,

It's just a quick post tonight people. It's been a funny old day. I had a message at 8.30am to say my uncle had been taken into hospital. Unfortunately, they say they can't do anything else for him and they have sent him back to the Nursing Home with antibiotics. The antibiotics may work but they may not. He's comforatable. He's been in and out of hospital for the last fortnight and been given quite a few lots of antibiotics so fingers crossed.

Then this afternoon, I took the dog out for a walk and fell down a hole would you believe. I got up and was a bit sore, but I'm starting to ache all over now, so I'm going to post this and then go to bed, I think.

Today, I thought I would share with you a 21st card I made using Wellington Past times CD Rom by Docraft.

Recipe

White A4 card to make Easel card
Black card for mat
Wellington Past times Cd for image and backing paper
I used the alphabet from the Cd to put the words 'Congratulations' and '21 Today' onto the blue backing paper
